Top Leagues

The Premier League is back in action, and before the first international break of the season, we got another exciting weekend of soccer full of goals, drama, and standout players. Fans were treated to some surprise results, some amazing goals, and a few players who reminded us why the Premier League is considered the most exciting league in the world.

Premier League Team of the Week: Chelsea Stars Shine as Jack Grealish Steals the Show

Chelsea, who are off to one of their strongest starts in recent years, kept up their good form with a 2-0 win against Fulham. Liverpool also stayed perfect with a 1-0 victory over Arsenal, keeping their 100% record alive. West Ham picked up their first win of the season in convincing fashion by beating Nottingham Forest 3-0, and Everton continued their impressive run with a thrilling 3-2 win against Wolves.

Goalkeeper

Robin Roefs (Sunderland) – 7.5

Even though Sunderland aren’t usually talked about when it comes to Premier League powerhouses, Robin Roefs is making people pay attention. The Dutch goalkeeper, who was recently called up to his national team, had a fantastic game in Sunderland’s 2-1 win over Brentford.

One of the highlights was when he saved a penalty from Brentford’s Kevin Schade. Saving a penalty in the Premier League is a huge deal because only around 15–20% of penalties are missed on average. Roefs also added two more important saves and showed calmness with the ball at his feet, keeping a 78% pass accuracy.

Fun fact: Goalkeepers who can pass well are becoming super valuable in modern soccer. Managers want their keepers to play like an extra defender. That’s exactly what Roefs is showing early in his career.

Defence

Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) – 8.3

Yes, you read that right—Szoboszlai played at right-back! Usually a midfielder, he was pushed into a defensive role by manager Jürgen Klopp against Arsenal. Not only did he do the job defensively with two tackles, six clearances, and an interception, but he also scored the winning goal.

And what a goal it was! A 30-yard free-kick smashed in off the post. Goals like that are rare, and it reminded fans of some of the greatest free-kick takers in Premier League history, like David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea) – 8.2

Chalobah stood tall in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham, winning 12 duels, making four interceptions, and completing 52 of his 58 passes. Chelsea fans loved his composure and physical strength.

He’s been one of the more underrated defenders, but performances like this show why Chelsea are hard to break down right now. Did you know? Chelsea have kept more clean sheets than any other team in the league so far this season.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace) – 8.2

Marc Guehi, Palace’s captain, reminded everyone why he’s attracting transfer interest. In Palace’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa, he scored a stunning goal—curling the ball into the top corner from outside the box.

Defenders don’t score much, so when they do, it’s extra special. Guehi’s leadership was also on display, keeping Villa’s attackers quiet.

Midfield

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Everton) – 8.2

Everton’s win over Wolves was powered by Dewsbury-Hall, who scored a goal and provided an assist. He linked up really well with Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye. With 13 passes into the final third and two big chances created, he showed he can be Everton’s creative spark this season.

Combo alert: Everton’s attack is starting to look dangerous. Grealish + Dewsbury-Hall + Ndiaye might just be the trio that saves Everton from another tough season.

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) – 8.4

Manchester United finally grabbed their first win of the season, beating Burnley 3-2, and it was captain Bruno Fernandes who stepped up. He scored the late penalty to seal the win and bossed the midfield with 70 accurate passes out of 84 attempts.

Bruno was everywhere—duels, clearances, and controlling the tempo. United fans will hope this is the start of better results.

Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea) – 8.3

Another Chelsea star on the list! Enzo Fernandez scored a penalty and assisted Joao Pedro’s opener with a pinpoint corner in the win over Fulham.

The Argentine World Cup winner has been growing into a leadership role at Stamford Bridge. Midfielders who can both score and assist are gold in the Premier League. Fun fact: Only about 15% of corners lead directly to goals, so Enzo’s delivery was spot on.

Lucas Paquetá (West Ham) – 8.5

Speculation swirled about whether Paquetá was leaving, but he put that to rest with a brilliant performance. He scored from the penalty spot and celebrated by kissing the West Ham badge. Fans loved it.

Paquetá’s creativity and flair make him one of the most watchable midfielders in the league. West Ham will be desperate to keep him.

Forwards

David Brooks (Bournemouth) – 8.1

In Bournemouth’s surprise 1-0 win over Spurs, David Brooks shined. He created two big chances, had two shots on target, and even helped defensively with three tackles and five duels won.

This was a massive win for Bournemouth against a Spurs team that had been flying. Brooks was at the heart of it.

Joao Pedro (Chelsea) – 8.3

Chelsea’s Joao Pedro continued his hot streak, scoring again with a header just before halftime. He’s proving to be one of the best summer signings.

Pedro was everywhere in attack, with nine passes into the final third and two shots on target. Chelsea fans are quickly falling in love with his work rate and skill.

Jack Grealish (Everton) – 8.6 – Player of the Week

The standout star of the weekend was none other than Jack Grealish. After joining Everton on loan from Manchester City, many wondered how he would adapt. The answer? Brilliantly.

In Everton’s 3-2 win over Wolves, Grealish grabbed two assists and showed incredible vision. He now leads the Premier League in assists with four—the most of any player this season.

Final Thoughts

This Team of the Week shows just how competitive and exciting the Premier League is. Chelsea dominated with three players (Chalobah, Enzo, Joao Pedro), Everton had two (Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish), and stars from Liverpool, West Ham, Palace, United, Sunderland, and Bournemouth all got their spotlight.

From free-kick magic to rock-solid defending, and from unexpected heroes to established stars, this week was a reminder of why soccer fans can’t look away from the Premier League.

With the international break now here, some of these players will join their national teams, while others will get some much-needed rest. But one thing’s for sure: when the league resumes, we’ll be ready for more goals, more drama, and maybe some new faces in our next Team of the Week.
